Richard Pearse

Richard Pearse was a famous NZ plane inventor. He was the first man to build and fly a plane. He flew his plane on 31 March 1903. On his  farm he built his own workshop and that is where he did all of his engineering. He designed, built and powered his own plane.

  1. Zoe - we were just talking about Richard Pearse in our classroom not so long ago as well. Being NZers, we know all about Richard Pearse but some of your international readers might disagree. They might suggest that the Wright brothers were first - what would you say to them?

Loving your class's famous NZer's reports!

  2. Hi Zoe, I think it is amazing that Richard Pearse flew a plane 108 years ago. That is a very long time ago and sometimes it is hard to imagine how everyone coped without all our technology. I wonder how we would have coped back then???

  3. Zoe Wow I had forgotten all about Richard Pearse. thank you for reminding me. It would be quite hard to build a plane on a farm don't you think?
